Mush to Solids.

Well I seem to have made the transition from mushies to solid food a little early.  This week I've had sausages, bread, cucumber - and they've all been fine.  It's been 3.5 weeks since surgery and I'm chewing my food like crazy so it might as well be mush.  Even though I can probably eat quite a bit more than I am, I'm using myfitnesspal to track everything I eat and most days staying around 1200 calories, though yesterday I didn't even make it to 1000.  I haven't really noticed the band when I'm eating, sometimes I worry that it's not in there!  I'm sure it is, I've got the incisions (war wounds) to prove it.  My fill is scheduled for 2 weeks today.

I've been having a little bit of pain in my left side, kind of near the medium sized incision I've got there - but it feels like a pulled muscle.  I don't know if it's to do with surgery or I just stretched too far when painting my friend's hallway the other day.

I haven't been doing as well as I should with protein or water.  I don't know what the deal with water is - I used to be so good a drinking the right amount, but since being banded I don't think I've had a single day when I've reached my quota.  That will be my mission this week.

  1. I have also found it very hard to get my water in. Yesterday was the only day that I was able to get all the water in I needed. I noticed the band restriction for a week or two after surgery but now I can't notice it at all unless I forget to chew my food really well. I have had a fill of 3ccs and still feel no restriction, so don't get discouraged if you need multiple fills before feeling anything.

    I'm glad you are healing!

  2. With the lap band you will find in the early months especially that you will need to sip all day long to get in your water.

I have such great restriction that for me when I drink water, it is like a funnel and I feel it trickle through my band.

After your fill this will get even harder, so start carrying your water and sipping constantly! Water and protein are so very very important in this process!

  3. I too sometimes wonder if my band is there. My doc said its because I haven't gotten a fill yet. I get mine next week hopefully!

On most days I get all my water in but the past two days have been hard. Try and sip all day long.

  4. I had the same kind of pain in my left side that would come and go for the first couple months. Not sure why.

As for the water, I had this same problem at the beginning too and I think it was just because at first, all you're having is liquids and mushies so you don't want anymore liquidy stuff and later it's due to the inability to gulp. Now I have to sip all day to hit my water intake.

  5. I agree with Manda! I'm a normal all-day water drinker but since surgery I'm having to MAKE myself drink it! I'm so tired of drinking!!LOL (never thought I'd be able to say that) I, too, moved forward a little early, started mushies today and it felt so good to CHEW food. Glad you are doing well. :)

  6. You reminded me of me when I first transitioned to real food. I was so afriad that I chewed everything to mush too and called it a day ! :) I've never had a problem guzzling water (after the first few weeks) so I guess I'm just lucky.

  7. Getting the fills are definitely going to help! It's so good that you are still eating small portions and tracking your calories even though you can eat more. Glad you're doing good! I agree with just trying to sip the water all day.
